About the Role These newly created roles are offered as 6 or 12 month blocks in Medicine, Geriatrics, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Anaesthetics and Emergency. As a Generalist Registrar, you will be involved in caring for ward patients who have been admitted, admitting new patients, and performing day stay procedures with appropriate supervision and training e.g.

chest drains, lumbar punctures and ascitic procedures etc. There is a strong expectation of teaching in our department. You will be expected to be present for teaching and to provide teaching.

Within your run, you will be part of a team including a Consultant/SMO and junior RMOs. The high SMO to RMO ratio within a smaller hospital means high levels of contact with SMOs and opportunities to assist in theatre, learn a range of procedures (including minor surgical/orthopaedic procedures, airway management and vascular line placement) and do outpatient clinics. We have a well-structured medical education program, and you will be involved in teaching and supervising junior doctors.

On the General Practice run you will experience the benefits of working and living in the Marlborough community and can engage in formal GP, Rural hospital medicine and urgent care training. Your hospital rotations are accredited to form part of GP and Rural medicine training. As these are newly created roles, we will involve you in developing the registrar program to ensure safe, effective patient care and good training and supervision.

This is a permanent full-time role working xx hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE). The working hours are 8.

00AM to 4.00PM daily with long days 4.00PM to 10.

00PM. Night shifts will be 10.00PM to 8.

00AM. Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) are 8.00AM to 10.

00PM. About the Team/Service/ Location Wairau Hospital in Blenheim is seeking to develop a tier of generalist registrars to offer good training in multiple areas of care. The hospital is situated at the top of the South Island with easy access to Picton, Wellington, Kaikoura, Nelson and the Marlborough Sounds.

Wairau is a medium sized rural hospital (75 beds) situated in New Zealands premier wide producing region and considered the countrys sunniest area.
